Oakton Emeritus Program Spotlights Famous Women

Take a closer look at the lives of women who shaped history, in a course offered by the Oakton Community College Emeritus Program.

Famous Women Who Made a Difference (HIS E99-71) focuses on women in history who made important contributions to society. Students will learn about Beatrice Mendes, a Jewish philanthropist who helped Jews escape the Inquisition; Fanny Kemble, a British actress and abolitionist; and Helen Suzman, a South African opponent of apartheid and champion for human rights. This four-week course meets 2:30 - 4 p.m. on Thursdays, starting March 11, at the Ray Hartstein Campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave, Skokie. Course fee is $50.

Students age 60 and over who reside within Oakton's district pay half-tuition for Emeritus noncredit classes. Those who have registered for an Oakton credit class within the last three years or an Alliance for Lifelong Learning noncredit class within the last five years may register using the Touch-Tone system by dialing 847-635-1616. Touch-Tone registration requires payment using a major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or Discover).
