Register
now for spring ESL courses at Oakton Community College, for intermediate
students whose native language is not English. These fee-based classes
supplement the no-cost ESL classes administered by the Illinois Community
College Board.
Intensive
ESL (COM A19) helps students develop extensive language skills
and cultural awareness. Starting Monday, Jan. 9, this nine-week class
meets 12:20 - 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday, at the Ray Hartstein
Campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie. Course fee is $225. In-person
pre-registration is required.
TOEFL
Prep Seminar (COM A45) helps non-native speakers of English
prepare for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), as
required by colleges and professional accrediting agencies. Three
nine-week course sessions are offered at Oakton's Ray Hartstein Campus:
Saturdays, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., starting Jan. 20; 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., Tuesdays,
starting Jan. 23; or 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., Mondays, starting Jan. 29.
Course fee is $80.
Conversational
English Practice (COM A50) helps develop the skills to be
more effective in business and social situations. Four eight-week
course sessions are available: 9:15 a.m. - 12 p.m., Saturdays, at
Oakton's Skokie campus, starting Jan. 20; 6:45 - 9:30 p.m., Tuesdays,
at Niles West High School, 5701 Oakton St., Skokie, starting Jan.
23; 9 - 11:45 a.m., Mondays, at Temple Judea Mizpah, 8610 Niles Center
Road, Skokie, starting Jan. 29; and 7 - 9:45 p.m., Wednesdays, starting
Jan. 31, at Maine West High School, 1755 S. Wolf Road, Des Plaines.
Course fee is $65.
Other
ESL courses offered during the spring 2007 semester include Intensive
Grammar Review (COM A70), Improve Your Pronunciation
(COM A29), Composition for Intermediate ESL Students
(COM A61), and Citizenship Education (HIS A15).
