Enrollment Open for Free Literacy Classes

Intermediate ESL students seeking to improve their reading skills can still enroll in free day and evening classes at eight convenient suburban locations through Oakton Community College's Alliance for Lifelong Learning.

Enrollment is open for reading classes at Northbrook Public Library, 1201 Cedar Lane, and North Suburban YMCA, 2705 Techny Road, Northbrook. Classes also are offered at Oakton's Skokie campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave.; Skokie Public Library; Niles Public Library; Des Plaines Public Library; Lincolnwood Public Library and Golf Mill Shopping Center.

Classes run for 11 weeks starting the week of Sept. 20, but late enrollment is permitted. The purpose of these free reading classes is to develop reading and writing skills for personal or employment purposes, and students may discuss their learning goals with a counselor at registration. These are not ESL classes. Classes are funded by the Illinois Community College Board, the Office of the Secretary of State, and the Illinois State Library.
