Oakton Students Receive Academic Honors

Two Oakton Community College students, Jennifer Bernstein, of Bensenville, and Svenja Elakatt, of Des Plaines, have been named to the 2007 Phi Theta Kappa All-Illinois Academic Team, a division of the All-USA Team for community colleges.

Phi Theta Kappa is the international honor society for two-year colleges.

Bernstein graduated from Oakton in December 2006 with a 3.79 GPA and currently attends University of Illinois at Chicago Her career goal is to become a physical therapist. Elakatt, a nursing student with a 3.78 GPA, will receive her degree at Oakton's May 15 commencement. She also plans to transfer to UIC to continue her nursing studies.

Both students were honored April 24 at a ceremony in Springfield. Academic team members are recognized for scholastic achievement, leadership, and volunteer work.
