Oakton
Community College and Volunteers in Teaching Adults (VITA) are seeking
volunteers to help adults learn to read and write English. Training
will be held Tuesday, June 8, and Thursday, June 10, 6:30 - 10 p.m.,
at Oakton's Ray Hartstein Campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie.
VITA
tutors are asked to commit three to six hours each week and to work
with teachers in the English as a Second Language (ESL) and Learn
to Read to Learn (LTRTL) programs. Tutors may volunteer weekdays,
evenings, and weekends at Oakton's Skokie campus, as well as local
schools, libraries, churches, and businesses. Summer classes run June
through August.
