Set sail this summer on a voyage to Alaska with Oakton's First Class Adventures program. Scheduled for July 23 - Aug. 6, Alaska: A Family Voyage will give you the opportunity to introduce your grandchildren or children to this wild and unspoiled part of North America.You and your family will set sail in Vancouver, Canada, aboard the SS Universe Explorer, and travel the fabled Inside Passage to such destinations as Juneau, Wrangell, Sitka, Valdez and Skagway, among other historic ports-of-call. Your escort on this journey will be David Rodgers, Oakton professor of environmental science and biology, and seasoned leader of various field experiences. Rodgers, along with faculty members from universities throughout the Pacific Northwest, will give a series of interactive talks and slide presentations on the area's natural and cultural history. Optional tours will also be available during the trip, including sea kayaking, white water rafting, and helicopter rides.
Although this trip is designed for grandparents, parents, children and grandchildren, other non-intergenerational trips are scheduled throughout 2002: June 25 - July 9, July 9 - July 23, and August 6 - 20. Call Bea Cornellisen at (847) 635-1812 for more information.
