Slice
through Antarctica's breathtaking ice passages on an educational tour
offered through Oakton Community College's travel and study program.
Trips in 2008 are scheduled to depart in January, February, and March.
An
expedition leader aboard the Russian vessel Akademik Ioffe
will maximize the educational adventure while considering weather
and safety issues. Along the way, visit several international research
stations and penguin colonies. A kayaking excursion is offered for
an additional charge.
Participants
also have the opportunity to spend a night sleeping out "on the ice."
All necessary equipment, including sleeping bags and tents, is provided
at no additional cost. Also, specific tour itineraries are adjusted
based on daily weather and ice conditions.
