Slice
through Antarctica's breathtaking ice passages on an educational tour
offered through Oakton Community College. Trips in 2008 are scheduled
in January, February, and March.
An
expedition leader aboard the Russian vessel, Akademik Ioffe,
will maximize the educational adventure while considering weather
and safety issues. Specific itineraries are adjusted based on daily
weather and ice conditions. Travelers will visit several international
research stations and penguin colonies.
Participants
also have the opportunity to spend a night sleeping out "on the ice."
All necessary equipment, including sleeping bags and tents, is provided
at no extra cost.
A
kayaking excursion is offered for an additional charge.
