But is it 'Art'?
Oakton Production of Tony Award-Winning Play Opens Feb. 28
Experience a night of thought-provoking humor as Performing Arts at Oakton present the Tony Award-winning play, "Art," at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28, in Studio One at Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road.
Written by Yasmina Reza and directed by Frank Del Giudice, "Art" revolves around three friends who find their 15-year friendship tested when one of them buys an expensive all-white painting. The play escalates into an examination of friendship-its demands, obligations, and rewards-when the three characters reveal conflicting responses to the minimalist work.
Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28 and March 2, and Saturday, March 1 and 8; and for 2 p.m. Sunday, March 2 and 9. Tickets are $12 for general admission, $10 for students and seniors, and $8 for group and Partner in Performance (PIP) members may be purchased by calling the Oakton Box Office at 847-635-1900. [NOTE: The purchase of one full-price ticket to any show in the spring 2003 performance schedule earns a free PIP membership to Oakton's Performing Arts Center and reduced ticket prices to other shows. To learn about discounts for groups of 15 or more, call Karol Verson at 847-635-2185.]
Also, a free preview lecture, "What is Art?," will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26, in the Koehnline Gallery at the Des Plaines campus. Nathan Harpaz, curator, will discuss how the modern art revolution changed the way people perceive and evaluate works of art.
Other shows in the spring 2003 season at Oakton's Performing Arts Center include "Company," Stephen Sondheim's hard-edged depiction of the difficulties of romantic relationships (March 21 - 23 and 28 - 30) and "Crossing Delancey," a romantic comedy that explores the clash between modern and traditional Jewish life (May 2, 4, 9 - 11 and 16 - 17).
