News Release |
The 6th annual At-Home Dads Convention will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. at Oakton Community College, 1600 East Golf Road in Des Plaines. This popular convention provides opportunities for men and women to examine the rewards and challenges facing fathers who serve as the primary caregivers for their children.
This year's event, entitled Celebrating the Joy and Magic of At-Home Fatherhood, features two keynote speakers and a new open-discussion format facilitated by "veteran" at-home fathers and family psychologists. During scheduled small-group and private discussion sessions, participants can share stories about their experiences and offer helpful tips and tools to individuals who have recently made, or are thinking about making this lifestyle change.
The At-Home Dads convention was conceived by Robert Frank, Ph.D., a family therapist and associate professor of psychology at Oakton. Frank's book Parenting Partners, published by St. Martin's Press in October 2000, gives practical, time-tested solutions to many of the issues facing at-home dads and their families. One of the nation's leading researchers on the subject, Frank frequently contributes his expertise to various media worldwide about the growing popularity of this unique lifestyle.
Registration fees for the convention are $50 if submitted before Oct. 26, and $60 after this date. Participants who also choose to attend Oakton's Men's Day Conference on the following day, Nov. 18, may register for both events for a fee of $70. The Men's Day Conference features workshops and discussions about everyday concerns and issues facing men today.
The Courtyard Marriott of Glenview, 1801 Milwaukee Ave., is the official hotel of this year's convention and is offering a special $69 convention rate until Oct. 26. Transportation from the hotel to the convention will be provided. For reservations call (847) 803-2500.
