The National Junior College Athletic Conference has
recognized three Oakton Community College students for academic achievement
in 2007-08. Students earn the Distinguished Academic All-American
honor by achieving a 3.80 grade point average or higher after completing
48 credit hours. Academic All-American honors were given to students
with a GPA between 3.60 and 3.79 after completing 48 credit hours.
Two Oakton volleyball players received the NJCAA’s highest academic
honor, including Kristin Santiago (Niles North) of
Skokie and Anna Weissman (Christian Liberty Academy)
of Glenview. Santiago, an elementary education major who graduated
with a 3.95 GPA, is headed to National-Louis University. Weissman,
a liberal arts major who graduated with a 3.84 GPA, intends to study
international affairs at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Also cited was women’s soccer player Gisela Gomez
(Maine East) of Des Plaines, who was named an Academic All-American.
A human services major, Gomez graduated with a 3.78 GPA and plans
to transfer to Loyola University Chicago.
