Four Oakton Community College baseball players have been named "Junior
College Players to Watch in 2006" by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
Ryan
Stobart, a transfer from Southern Illinois who can throw
90 miles per hour, was named one of the nation's top junior college
right-handed pitchers.
Adam
Wyman and George Whitten were named among
the nation's top junior college outfielders. Wyman (Bollingbrook)
led the Raiders in 2004 with a .448 batting average, while Whitten
(Prospect) batted .423.
Freshman
Ryan Holley, a two-time all-conference first baseman
at Lincoln-Way East, was named a top junior college newcomer.
"This
is the first time we've had four players listed as players to watch
in the same season," said new Oakton head coach Bill Fratto. "Our
team chemistry is outstanding, and we are going to compete at a high
level in every game this year."
Rankings by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, an authority in
amateur baseball for 40 years, are compiled by junior college baseball
coaches.
In the 2005 baseball campaign, Oakton finished 34-20, the third year
in a row the Raiders won at least 30 games.
