Two
Oakton Community College baseball players have been named "Junior
College Players to Watch in 2005" by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
Sophomore
John McGowan, a four-year varsity starter at Schaumburg High
School, was named one of the nation's top junior college right-handed
pitchers. McGowan was 7-1 for Oakton last season and already has won
a scholarship to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
Terrence
Whitler, a sophomore transfer from Murray State University, was
named among the top junior college outfielders. A Thornridge High
School graduate, Whitler played center field in Oakton's 2004 fall
season, hitting .371 and posting 15 stolen bases.
Rankings
by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, an authority in amateur baseball
for 40 years, are compiled by junior college baseball coaches.
In
the 2004 baseball campaign, Oakton was 33-17, and finished third in
the NJCAA Region IV Finals, the highest achievement of any team in
College history. The Raiders also won the NJCAA Region IV Sectional
Championship for the second year in a row.
