For the first time, Oakton Community College hosts the National Junior
College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region IV Division III men's
and women's basketball championships. The three-day tournament runs
Thursday, March 2 through Saturday, March 4, at the Des Plaines campus
gymnasium, 1600 E. Golf Road.
On
the women's side, No. 2 College of DuPage (20-9) takes on host No.
3 Oakton (15-13) Thursday, March 2 at 7 p.m. Top-seeded Joliet Junior
College (24-4) was scheduled to play at 5 p.m. in the evening's first
semifinal game against No. 4 Harper College (11-15). However, Joliet
receives a bye to the finals as Harper was forced to forfeit as the
Hawks did not have enough healthy players to field a team.
In men's action, the semifinals will be played Friday, March 3. Top-seeded
Harper College (24-6) plays No. 4 Rock Valley College (7-20) at 5
p.m., followed by No. 2 Joliet Junior College (22-8) versus No 3 College
of DuPage (7-22) at 7 p.m.
On
Saturday, March 4, the women's championship will be played at Oakton
at 5 p.m. and the men's title game tips off at 7 p.m. The winner of
the women's NJCAA Region IV Division III title advances to the NJCAA
Division III National Championship in Utica, New York, March 16-18.
The victor in the men's bracket advances to the NJCAA Division III
National Championship in Delhi, New York, March 16-18.
Tickets
for the NJCAA Region IV Division III men's and women's basketball
tournament are $3 for adults and $2 for students. Parking is free
(Lot A recommended).
