Two women
basketball players and one men's team player from Oakton Community
College have been named to the 2004 National Junior Collegiate Athletic
Association (NJCAA) Region IV All-Region Team.
Sophomore
forward Katie Panegasser (Maine West) was named to the NJCAA
Region IV All-Region First Team. Panegasser led the Raiders in scoring,
averaging 18.3 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. She also was named
to the NJCAA Region IV Division III All-Tournament Team and Skyway
Conference All-Conference First Team, having led the conference in
scoring.
Sophomore
guard Erika Axibal (Glenbrook South) was named to the NJCAA
Region IV All-Region Second Team. Axibal's 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals
per game led the Raiders. Axibal also was named to the Skyway Conference
All-Conference Honorable Mention Team.
On the
men's side, freshman Will Stephenson of Chicago was named to
the NJCAA Region IV Second Team. Stephenson made an immediate impact
for the Raiders as he led the team with 21.3 points and 9.6 rebounds
per game. Stephenson finished ninth in scoring in NJCAA Division II
and also was named to the Skyway Conference All-Conference First Team.
Two other
Oakton players also received postseason honors. Sophomore forward
Ainara Zabala from Spain was named to the Skyway Conference
All-Conference Honorable Mention Team. Sophomore John Vigna
(Maine South), ranked third in steals among all conference players,
was selected to the Skyway Conference All-Conference Second Team.
The Oakton
women's basketball team finished the season at 14-15, the squad's
best record since 2001. The men's team ended the 2003-2004 campaign
with an 8-23 record. Coach Rick Kilby reached a milestone earning
his 300th career coaching victory.
