Oakton Library Presents 'Beautiful Minds' Series

Judy Langston, assistant professor of graphic design at Oakton Community College, presents "A Palette of Women Artists" from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Thursday, March 20, at the Oakton Library, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines. A diverse and fascinating group of artists, including Frida Kahlo, Georgia O'Keeffe, Maya Lin, and Julia Margaret Cameron, are among those featured and discussed in this program celebrating Women's History Month.

"A Palette of Women Artists" is presented as part of the Oakton Library's new lecture series called "Beautiful Minds." The program is designed to introduce students and community members to the academic passions of Oakton faculty, staff, and administrators.

The series continues Tuesday, April 1, 11 a.m. - 12:15 p.m., with a poetry reading by David Koenig, Ph.D., professor of English and author of several volumes of verse, including "The Ladder of Memory" and "The Spiral Staircase." On Wednesday, April 23, 1 - 2 p.m., Oakton Honors students and science faculty will highlight their collaborative research and scholarship efforts. "WordsWork: An Open Reading of Poetry & Fiction," featuring members of the English department faculty and their students, is scheduled Tuesday, May 6, 1 - 2:15 p.m. All lectures meet in the Des Plaines Campus Library, Lower Level.

The "Beautiful Minds" programs are free and open to the public; groups of 10 or more are asked to register by calling the Library's Reference Desk at 847-635-1644. For more information, call Joan Cichon at 847-635-1727 or Judith Mayzel at 847-635-1715.
