Chicago's vibrant history during Oakton Community College's 2007
Bluestem Festival of the Arts and Humanities. Eight great
events are scheduled June 4 - 7 at Oakton's Ray Hartstein Campus,
7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie.
The
theme of this year's Bluestem Festival, "Chicago's Best and
Brightest," celebrates the Windy City's extensive cultural
landscape and some of its most fascinating individuals. Programs include:
"Chicago's
All Time Greats" examines the lives of six inspirational
role models who helped transform Chicago into the great city it is
today (Monday, June 4, 10 - 11:30 a.m.);
"Clarence
Darrow: The Lawyer and the Man" delves into the professional
and private life of Clarence Darrow whose name is synonymous with
the celebrated Scopes "Monkey Trial" and the murder trial of Leopold
and Loeb (Tuesday, June 5, 10 - 11:30 a.m.);
"The
Art Institute of Chicago: Early 20th Century Collection" focuses
on permanent works of expressionism and cubism at the Art Institute
of Chicago (Wednesday, June 6, 1 - 2:30 p.m.); and
"Chicago's
Blues Roots" looks at the great musical performers who helped
put Chicago on the blues map (Thursday, June 7, 1 - 2:30 p.m.).
The
fee for the entire Bluestem Festival series is $45; individual lectures
