Oakton's College Bowl Team Headed for State Tourney
Oakton Community College's College Bowl team advanced to the state finals on Feb. 29, defeating McHenry County College at the Spring 2008 College Bowl Regional Tournament.
With the 120-75 win, Oakton advances to the state finals for the sixth time in eight years. The state tournament is scheduled Friday, April 25, at Moraine Valley Community College, where schools from six regions will compete for the state crown.
Oakton's College Bowl team is an intercollegiate academic quiz group that competes against players from other schools. Team members include Ed McGrath, Glenview (captain); and Vrushank Shah, Steve Spera, and Cheryl Valloni, all of Des Plaines. The team's coach and faculty advisor is John Stryker, assistant professor of mathematics and technologies.
College Bowl tournaments are sponsored by the Illinois Community College Trustees Association and the Illinois Community College Student Activities Association.
