Phil
Cronin, a resident of Elmwood Park and full-time student studying
fire science at Oakton Community College, is the Outstanding Student
of the Semester at the Ray Hartstein Campus. The honor comes with
a gift certificate to the bookstore, and a reserved parking space
donated by Nancy Prendergast, dean of the Ray Hartstein Campus.
"Phil
is always very attentive to the needs and welfare of our students,
faculty, and staff," said Prendergast. "We have several Emeritus students
who attend classes in wheelchairs, and Phil always tries to be available
to help them."
Prendergast
noted that during a winter snowstorm, Cronin, also a part-time Public
Safety employee at Oakton, helped start a faculty member's car, which
failed again five blocks from campus. Cronin carried a heavy battery
charger back to the employee's car and got it restarted.
Cronin's
experience as a student employee with Instructional Media Services
(IMS) also makes him a valuable problem-solver for students, faculty,
and staff, whenever trouble arises with audio-visual equipment or
event logistics, Prendergast added.
