Cultural
sensitivity, ethical issues, and improved listening and critical thinking
skills are among the topics covered in a new course being offered
at Oakton Community College. "Interpersonal Communications Across
Cultures" [SPE 115, Tues., Thurs., 11 a.m. - 12:15 p.m., Des Plaines
campus], will focus on respect and understanding across cultures,
and how to communicate that understanding, according to Prof. Toni
Rowitz.
Class
participants will study communication as action, interaction, and
transaction, as well as conflict resolution and power in relationships.
Other activities will look at the cultural similarities and differences
that exist across a wide spectrum of behavior, from control and the
acquisition of knowledge or skills, to helping others and engaging
in leisure activity.
