Joseph Delaney Exhibition Opens Feb. 8 at Oakton

A selection of paintings and drawings by noted 20th century African American artist Joseph Delaney opens Thursday, Feb. 8, at Oakton Community College's Koehnline Museum of Art, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines. The public is invited to a free opening reception, 5 - 8 p.m. The exhibit runs through Friday, March 23.

Joseph Delaney: People and Sights of Urban Life is an exhibit that captures the people, events, and atmosphere of "big city" life. A WPA artist during the Great Depression and a New York City resident for more than 50 years, Delaney (1904-1991) developed his unique style of figurative expressionism after studying under Thomas Hart Benton in 1930. Delaney's works are included in the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Smithsonian American Art Museum.

The exhibit is free and open to the public. Koehnline Museum of Art hours are 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturdays.
