Oakton Screens New Holy Land Documentary

Oakton Community College will hold a screening and discussion of Denis Mueller's latest documentary film, "Tragedy in the Holy Land," on each of its campuses in Des Plaines and Skokie. Sponsored by Oakton's Honors Program, the showings will be Nov. 4, 12 - 2 p.m., on the Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Rd., and Nov. 5, 7 - 9 p.m., at the Ray Hartstein Campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie.

Both events are free and open to the public.

In his new documentary, director Mueller explores the ongoing conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians. The film examines the history and current realities of this tragedy from the Palestinian perspective using rare archival newsreel footage, new video shot in the Occupied Territories, and interviews with leading human rights advocates, activists, scholars, and policy experts.

Mueller, who teaches at both Columbia College and Daley College in Chicago, began making documentaries in 1984 and has received fellowships in recognition of his work from the Illinois Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. Some of his other works include "The FBI's War Against Black America," which won first prize for best documentary at the Athens, Ohio Film Festival in 1990; The Assassination of JFK"; "The Assassination of Martin Luther King"; and "Citizen Soldier: The Story of the Vietnam Veterans Against the War."
