Enjoy the cultural treasures of Egypt on a two-week tour sponsored by the Oakton Community College travel/study program. Trips scheduled for this year are Oct. 13 - 25 and Nov. 10 - 22. Six trips are scheduled for 2003: Jan. 12 - 24, Feb. 2 - 14, March 2 - 14, June 22 - July 4, Oct. 12 - 24, and Nov. 9 - 21.The tour begins in Cairo with a visit to the famous pyramids of the pharaohs, and the 4,600-year-old, 142-foot Solar Boat of the Pharaoh Cheops. Travelers will also stop at Abu Simbel to marvel at the rock temples built 3,500 years ago by Ramses II and visit the High Dam, the Granite Quarries and the Unfinished Obelisk, and the Temple of Philae along the Nile.
Other sites of antiquity on the tour include the Necropolis of Thebes, the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, and the tomb of King Tutankhamun.
Throughout the trip participants will sample native dishes at specially arranged meals and learn about the everyday lives and customs of the local people. For more information, including complete itineraries and prices, call Bea Cornelissen at (847) 635-1812.
