Enjoy the rustic beauty and cultural richness of Ireland on a tour sponsored by Oakton Community College's travel/study program. Trips are scheduled Sept. 12 - 26, 2002; and April 17 - May 1, May 16 - 30, July 10 - 24, and Sept. 11 - 25, 2003.After arriving in Shannon, travel through County Clare to Killarney, renowned for its beautiful lakes and enchanting mountains. Visit the "Ring of Kerry," a place of breathtaking scenery and history. Sample the local cuisine as you follow the route of the River Lee to Blarney, home of the legendary Blarney Stone.
Travel along the Coast Road to Cobh, County Cork, and visit St. Colman's Cathedral and the Cobh Emigration Museum, which highlights the city's history as the point of embarkation for thousands of immigrants. A trip to the Nire Valley gives you ample opportunity to take long walks or engage in mountain climbing and enjoy an evening of lively Irish music at the Melody's Pub in Ballymacarbry.
In Dublin, visit the haunts of James Joyce and walk the streets made famous by Molly Malone. Travel through County Sligo - "Yeats country" - and enjoy the magnificent views that inspired the gifted poet.
The journey ends where it began, in Shannon, where you'll visit the Bunratty Folk Park, a living reconstruction of Ireland a hundred years ago. A banquet at Bunratty Castle will make your last night in Ireland truly memorable.
