Greece, Australia, Italy Among Stops on People and Places Tours

Travel to a different place each week without leaving home with the Oakton Emeritus Program's People and Places lecture series. This series takes an inside look at fascinating people and places through the eyes of world travelers.

The series begins on Oct. 2 with artist Sara Drower, who reveals how Greek civilization is reflected in our language and culture. On Oct. 9 George Christensen relives his 4,000-mile bicycle ride through India and Nepal - from the beaches of Goa across the Himalayas to Katmadu.

Roberta Sotonoff, a travel writer, guides her "armchair tourists" through the Australian Outback on Oct. 16, and world traveler Ralph Danielson takes them on a drive through Scandinavia to view its rich tapestry of colors, landscapes, and living history on Oct. 23.

Participants are invited to take a "farmhouse vacation" in Tuscany, Italy, home of the famous Chianti wines, with Cornelia M. O'Kieffe on Oct. 30. The next stop is on Nov. 6, with Cynthia Holmberg, exploring Granada, Seville, and other Spanish landmarks. The last tour takes travelers to the Loire Valley in France to experience its cultural heritage, natural beauty, wine, and chateaux on Nov. 13. The guide is William Bridgman.

All sessions meet from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Ray Hartstein Campus. Students age 60 and older who live in Oakton's district pay $25 for the series; the fee is $30 for students under 60 and those who live out of district.
