From Hollywood's infamous blacklist to the master of suspense, Alfred Hitchcock, the Oakton Emeritus Program offers several new classes in film history this fall.Celluloid Ladies: Six Films That Salute Women (HUM E90-61, Touch-Tone 04742), taught by Francine Sanders, examines films that feature compelling female characters who transformed themselves and those around them. The six-week class meets from 12 to 3:15 p.m. Wednesdays, beginning Oct. 16. The course fee is $100.
Join John Rizzo as he demonstrates how visual and cinematic themes crucially influence plot resolution in his new class The Art of Alfred Hitchcock - Cinematography, Part II (HUM S49-61, Touch-Tone 04832). This six-week class meets from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, beginning Oct. 8. The course fee is $70.
Another new class, Witch-Hunting in Hollywood: The Blacklist on Film (HUM E89-61, Touch-Tone 04741), discusses the Hollywood blacklist and its pervasive impacts on the film industry. Taught by Francine Sanders, this six-week class meets from 9:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Tuesdays, beginning Oct. 22. The course fee is $100.
Other available classes in film history include Movies, The Frescoes of Our Time: Exploring Film Noir (HUM E75), Friday Afternoon at the Movies (HUM E74), and Favorite Classic Films (E91-61).
All classes meet at Oakton's Ray Hartstein Campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie. Students who have registered for ALL classes within the last five years, or a credit course in the last three years, may register by using the Touch-Tone system at (847) 635-1616 or by fax at (847) 635-1448. Both methods require payment using a major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or Discover).
