This spring, Oakton Community College's Emeritus Program offers four new classes on a variety of different topics ranging from the literary world of Dickens to the flamboyant architecture of Spain. The seminars meet at the Ray Hartstein Campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie.American Arts in Syncopated Rhythm (ART C34-71, Touch-Tone 07937) explores the work of South American artists such as Rivera, Kahlo and Botero. The growing popularity of Latin American music will also be discussed. The class meets from 2 - 3 p.m. on four Wednesdays, beginning May 8. The fee for this course is $50.
Art and Architectural Treasures of Spain (ART C31-71, Touch-Tone 07936) uses slides to present an overview of Spain's unique architectural style. The design of popular Spanish museums in Madrid and Prado will be studied, as well as the multi-level parks and palaces of architect Antoni Gaudi in Barcelona. The class meets from10 - 11:30 a.m. on five Mondays, beginning April 8.The fee for this course is $60.
Studies in Shakespeare (ENG E06-71, Touch-Tone 07955) examines the great bard's approach to classical tragedy and comedy, through the study of Othello and A Midsummer Night's Dream. The class meets from 2:30 - 4 p.m. on four Tuesdays, beginning March 5. The fee for this course is $50.
The World of Charles Dickens (ENG E05-71, Touch-Tone 07954) studies the relationship between Dickens' fiction and journalism, and England's criminal and educational institutions at the time. The class meets from 2 - 3:30 p.m. on two Thursdays, beginning April 25. The fee for this course is $30.
