Two
Oakton Community College faculty members are recipients of the 2004
Chair Academy Exemplary Leadership Award, College officials announced.
Katherine "Kitty" Tabers and Richard Stacewicz will
accept their awards Friday, March 4, at the Chair Academy's 14th Annual
International Conference in Ft. Lauderdale.
"These
awards affirm the high level of dedication shown by Oakton's faculty,"
said Margaret Lee, Oakton president. "This extra effort benefits both
students and the community."
Tabers,
a professor of computer technologies and information systems, also
serves as coordinator for technology and the World Wide Web. She created
Oakton's desktop publishing curriculum, and pioneered the College's
World Wide Web department.
Stacewicz, an associate professor of social sciences and history,
also serves as Honors Program coordinator and advisor for Oakton Students
for Social Justice. He recently coordinated an "Operation Truth" campus
visit by Iraq war veterans, and helped organize an Oakton "town meeting"
on how U.S. foreign policy affects the lives of American citizens.
The Chair Academy is an organization dedicated to advancing academic
and administrative leadership training worldwide. The Exemplary Leadership
Award is presented to college representatives who provide valued academic
and administrative guidance.
