Bill Fratto, Oakton head baseball
coach, is the Skyway Conference Coach of the Year.
In his first season as head coach, Fratto guided the Raiders to their
first Skyway Conference title since 1995. The Raiders finished conference
play with an 11-3 record and were co-champions with Elgin Community
College.
"My success is due to the players," said Fratto. "It's an honor to
be recognized, but you're only as good as your roster,
and our team has been playing hard all season."
In
addition, nine Oakton players received Skyway Conference awards. Sophomore
pitcher Ryan Stobart (St. Viator) was named Most
Valuable Player of the Year. Stobart was also named to the All-Conference
First Team along with freshman infielder Ryan Holley
(Lincoln Way East), freshman outfielder Jon Moore
(Lincoln Way East), sophomore pitcher Matt Michals
(Rolling Meadows), and sophomore outfielder George Whitten
(Prospect).
Named
to the Skyway Conference All-Conference Second Team were freshman
infielder Dan Nix (Hersey), sophomore pitcher Nick
Testin (Joliet Catholic), freshman catcher Tim Victor
(Lincoln Way East), and infielder Tom Hamann (Hersey).
Currently,
Oakton boasts a 40-12-1 overall record. The Raiders conclude the regular
season on May 6 before embarking on postseason play May 13, starting
date of the NJCAA Division II sectional championship.
"I'm
very excited with what lies ahead," said Fratto. "I've believed from
the start of the season that we can be the first team in Oakton history
to win a national title."
