For the sixth consecutive year, Oakton Community College has received three prestigious awards from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). The College is one of a select few institutions of higher learning in the nation to win all three awards in one year.In July, Oakton garnered the GFOA Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2001. This award the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting is the College's 11th consecutive award in this category.
Oakton captured a sixth consecutive award for the Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting for its 2001 Annual Report to the Community. This national award recognizes the document's creativity, clarity, and reader appeal.
Oakton also received its 10th consecutive Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, the only national awards program in governmental budgeting, for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2002. "We are honored to once again accept these awards," says George L. Chirempes, vice president for business and finance at Oakton. "Our primary goal is to communicate clearly the financial activities of the College to the Oakton district. Receiving the recognition of such a prestigious organization as the GFOA is a valued bonus."
The GFOA, a nonprofit organization of more than 12,000 members, promotes the professional management of governmental financial resources.
