News Release |
Deep thoughts and frequent laughter are in store as Oakton Community College presents the absurdist play, "Waiting for Godot," opening Tuesday, Nov. 20, in Studio Too at the Ray Hartstein Campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Avenue, Skokie.Since its premiere in Paris in 1953, "Waiting for Godot" has earned acclaim as one of the greatest works of the 20th century. Written by Samuel Beckett and directed by John Frisco, the play strays from the concepts of chronological plot, logical language, and recognizable settings, stripping the stage of unnecessary spectacle and characters. "Waiting for Godot" poses life's important questions - Does God exist? Why are we here? What does it mean to be human? - as main characters Vladimir and Estragon pass the time in a situation that seems to offer no hope.
Performances are scheduled at 8 p.m. Nov. 20 - Nov. 23, and at 2 p.m. Nov. 24. A special $5 sneak preview will be performed at 8 p.m. on Nov. 19. Tickets at $12 for general admission, $10 for students and seniors, and $8 for group and Partner in Performance (PIP) members may be purchased by calling the Oakton Box Office at 847-635-1900. The purchase of one full-price ticket to any of shows in the fall 2002 performance schedule earns a free PIP membership to Oakton's Performing Arts Center and reduced ticket prices to other shows. To learn about discounts for groups of 15 or more, call Karol Verson at 847-635-2185.
