Oakton
Community College and other local institutions are the recipients
of a $400,000 grant to enhance the skills of manufacturer employees
throughout the region, College officials said.
The grant was awarded to the Northern Illinois Regional Consortium,
a collaborative effort among Oakton, College of DuPage, College of
Lake County, and William Rainey Harper College. The grant funds will
help train more than 4,000 individuals at 64 companies throughout
Cook, DuPage, and Lake counties. The funding is part of Opportunity
Returns, a state initiative to spur economic growth and create new
jobs in Illinois.
In fiscal 2007, Oakton was the recipient of more than $3.4 million
in federal, state, and competitive grant funds.
