Dr. Thomas P. Hamel, a 20-year veteran faculty member
and administrator at Black Hawk College in Moline, is the new vice
president for academic affairs at Oakton Community College. The appointment,
which takes effect July 1, was made at the March 22 meeting of the
Oakton Board of Trustees.
Since
2002, Hamel has served as the dean of academic administration at Black
Hawk College. Hamel also served as an associate dean, English department
chair, and English faculty member during his two decades at Black
Hawk.
Before
joining Black Hawk, Hamel served on the faculty of St. Olaf College
in Northfield, Minnesota and Augusta College in Augusta, Georgia.
He earned his bachelor's degree from Boston College and his master's
and Ph.D. from Northwestern University.
Oakton
Community College offers degree and certificate programs for students
preparing to earn a bachelor's degree at a four-year college or university,
as well as those seeking employment in a variety of careers. Oakton
is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of
the North Central Association, Illinois Community College Board, and
American Association of Community Colleges.
