Happy End, a contemporary sequel to The
Threepenny Opera, will be presented March 9 - 12, and March 16
- 19, in the Footlik Theater at Oakton Community College, 1600 E.
Golf Road, Des Plaines.
Set
in Chicago at the dawn of the Roaring Twenties, Happy End pits
organized crime against the Salvation Army. Eventually, both sides
unite in an effort to battle a common enemy - capitalism. The play
debuted in 1929, with lyrics by Bertolt Brecht and music by Kurt Weill.
Performances of Happy End are 8 p.m., Fridays, March 10 and
17; 8 p.m., Saturdays, March 11 and 18; 2 p.m., Sundays, March 12
and 19; and 8 p.m., Thursday, March 16. Tickets are $12; $10 for students
and seniors; and $8 for groups of 15 or more.
A
$5 preview performance will be staged at 8 p.m., Thursday, March 9.
