HASSELL TAKES OVER AS VICE PRESIDENT OF STUDENT AFFAIRS AT OAKTON


R. Kipp Hassell assumed his new role as vice president of student affairs at Oakton Community College on June 1. He replaces Mary Olson, who retired in May after 29 years of service to the College.

In his new position, Hassell will direct and oversee the Student Affairs programs of the College, and coordinate the activities of the following departments and offices: Student Development, Student Services, Health Services, Career Placement; College Relations, Enrollment Management; Registration and Records, Financial Aid, Student Activities, Information Desk; and Intercollegiate and Intramural Athletics. He will also serve as a principal advisor to the President.

For the last four years, Hassell served as the College's Dean of Students, where he worked with faculty and students at the College's Des Plaines and Ray Hartstein campuses in areas related to counseling and advising, career placement and health services. Prior to his tenure at Oakton, Hassell served for 19 years as dean for student development at Northeastern Illinois University, and 12 years in various administrative positions in the Indiana University system.

A resident of Hawthorn Woods, Hassell holds a doctoral and master's degree in education from Indiana University. He earned a bachelor's degree in English from Earlham College in Richmond, Ind., and conducted additional graduate study in counseling at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.
