health career opportunities at free information sessions on innovative
new programs being offered this fall at Oakton Community College.
Interested students may attend presentations on Oakton's Massage Therapy
and Aseptic Pharmaceutical Preparations programs Wednesday, Aug. 8,
10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road,
and 3 - 5 p.m. at the Skokie campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave.
Both
programs are offered in conjunction with Kushan LLC and ASIS Massage;
the Massage Therapy program is pending approval by the Illinois Community
College Board.
"Kushan
and ASIS have professional track records in identifying highly effective
and dedicated instructors to teach these programs developed by practicing
experts," says Dennis Graham, dean of science and health careers.
"This partnership allows Oakton to focus on providing students with
a complete, cost-effective health career curriculum."
The
Massage Therapy program exposes students to different types of therapeutic
massage such as Swedish, neuromuscular, myofascial release, sports,
and injury recovery. This class meets daily, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., at
the Skokie campus, with off-campus labs scheduled 4 - 7 p.m., Tuesday
and Thursday. Classes begin Aug. 20 and meet over two semesters. Graduates
of the program are eligible to apply for an Illinois Massage Therapy
License.
The
Aseptic Pharmaceutical Preparations course provides students with
the core competencies necessary to safely prepare and deliver sterile
pharmaceuticals. This class meets 2 - 4:50 p.m., Monday and Wednesday,
at the Skokie campus, beginning Sept. 17.
