Oakton Offers New Massage Therapy and Aseptic Programs

Explore health career opportunities at free information sessions on innovative new programs being offered this fall at Oakton Community College. Interested students may attend presentations on Oakton's Massage Therapy and Aseptic Pharmaceutical Preparations programs Wednesday, Aug. 8, 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road, and 3 - 5 p.m. at the Skokie campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave.

Both programs are offered in conjunction with Kushan LLC and ASIS Massage; the Massage Therapy program is pending approval by the Illinois Community College Board.

"Kushan and ASIS have professional track records in identifying highly effective and dedicated instructors to teach these programs developed by practicing experts," says Dennis Graham, dean of science and health careers. "This partnership allows Oakton to focus on providing students with a complete, cost-effective health career curriculum."

The Massage Therapy program exposes students to different types of therapeutic massage such as Swedish, neuromuscular, myofascial release, sports, and injury recovery. This class meets daily, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., at the Skokie campus, with off-campus labs scheduled 4 - 7 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday. Classes begin Aug. 20 and meet over two semesters. Graduates of the program are eligible to apply for an Illinois Massage Therapy License.

The Aseptic Pharmaceutical Preparations course provides students with the core competencies necessary to safely prepare and deliver sterile pharmaceuticals. This class meets 2 - 4:50 p.m., Monday and Wednesday, at the Skokie campus, beginning Sept. 17.
