ethical and legal considerations involved in patient choice will be
covered in a workshop, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 9, at Oakton
Community College, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie.
"Who Can You Trust? Ethical, Legal, and Practical Concerns in Advance
Healthcare Planning," will be presented by Pamela Dalinis, MA, BSN,
director of education at the Midwest Palliative & Hospice CareCenter.
Co-presenters include Paul S. Franciszkowicz, JD, a partner with Monahan
& Cohen, Chicago, and Jill Bixby, NP, MA, Maine General Medical Center,
Augusta, Maine. Bixby also will present a special performance of her
educational play, B.O.A.T.I.N.G. (Before Offering Another Treatment
Identify New Goals).
Designed
for social workers, clergy, registered nurses, bereavement specialists,
and other professionals, this workshop covers topics such as informed
consent; advance care planning; respect for privacy; and the ethical
considerations of working with patients afflicted by dementia. This
program satisfies the IDPR Social Work Ethics Requirement (3 hours).
