Dr.
Edward Odisho, a native of Iraq and renowned professor of linguistics
at Northeastern Illinois University, will talk about the U.S. occupation
of Iraq "one year later," on Friday, April 2 at the Ray Hartstein
Campus of Oakton Community College, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie.
This "brown bag" lecture is presented from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., as
part of Oakton's "Digesting the News" series. A $5 donation is requested.
Dr. Odisho
left Iraq when Saddam Hussein took power in the 1970s. In addition
to his many academic pursuits, he and his son, a graduate of the Air
Force Academy, instruct U.S. military personnel about the cultures
of Iraq before they are deployed overseas.
Sponsored
by Oakton Educators for Social Responsibility, "Digesting the News"
is designed to provide a forum to discuss current topics concerning
peace and justice. The series concludes Friday, May 7, with George
Lungu, Oakton adjunct professor of political science and history,
examining the myths and realities of U.S. foreign policy in the Middle
East.
