Janam,
an artist's collective from India that combines theater with social
activism, hosts a day of performances and workshops Wednesday, May
2, at Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines. Admission
and parking are free (Lot A recommended).
Janam, a.k.a. Jana Natya Manch, or People's Theatre Group, promotes
individual justice and political reform by addressing illiteracy,
globalization, women's rights, religious fundamentalism, and other
complex issues. This visit is part of the group's first-ever U.S tour.
Starting
at 9 a.m., Janam will present the interactive workshop, "Whose Body
Is It Anyway?" "Which Side Are You On?" will be presented at 12:30
p.m., followed at 2 p.m. by "Street as Stage," a slide presentation
and discussion.
