"Japanimation"
workshops for youths interested in anime and manga - the Japanese
art forms popularized by TV cartoons such as Pokemon and Dragonball
Z - will be offered March 20 and 21 at Oakton Community College. Classes
for students in sixth grade and up are held at both Oakton campuses,
in Des Plaines and Skokie.
On Saturday,
March 20, students may register for either Japanese Anime/Manga
I or Computer Graphics/Design I. Class activities include
creating an action hero or comic strip character, and printing out
the results on a poster, book cover, or game cards.
Parents
who accompany their children may register for Blocking the Internet
I, to learn how to better monitor their child's e-mail, chat room,
and Web access on the Internet.
On Sunday,
March 21, students may register for either Japanese Anime/Manga
II or Computer Graphics/Design II. Parents may sign up
for Blocking the Internet II.
Classes
run 10 a.m. - noon, and 1 - 3 p.m. each day. No supervision is provided
between noon and 1 p.m. The course fee for each class is $35, and
the deadline for application is Wednesday, March 10. To request
