Peter
Nichols' Tony Award-winning tragicomedy "Joe Egg" will be presented
at Oakton, March 3-6 and March 9-13, at Studio One, 1600 E. Golf Road,
Des Plaines.
"Joe
Egg" tells the story of two parents, Brian and Shelia, who use fantasy
and humor to cope with a daughter who has cerebral palsy. The couple's
marriage strains as they fabricate conversations and personality traits
for a child who seems unable to communicate.
At
1 p.m., Wednesday, March 9, Oakton will sponsor "A Delicate Balance,"
a free preview lecture with director Kathleen Carot. Carot will discuss
the concept of dark comedy, and how art allows audiences to absorb
tragic circumstances without being horrified. The lecture will be
held in the Des Plaines campus theater lobby. Free parking is available
in Lot A.
Regular
performances of "Joe Egg" are 8 p.m., Fridays, March 4 and 11; 8 p.m.,
Saturdays, March 5 and 12; 2 p.m., Sundays, March 6 and 13 and 8 p.m.,

Additional
performances include a $5 preview at 8 p.m., Thursday, March 3, and
a $12 matinee at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 9, following the free preview
lecture.
