Bits of old furniture and other found objects come together to form compositions of sophisticated innocence in "Assemblages," a new exhibition by artist Keith Krueger that opens Thursday, July 10, at the Oakton Community College Koehnline Gallery, 1600 E. Golf Road. A free reception with refreshments is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m.Reviewed in the Washington Post as "lively, playful pieces that take us on a journey to the past and back again," Krueger's mixed-media sculptures combine old metal signs, pieces of weathered wood, and architectural ornaments found at estate sales and salvage yards. For the Chicago-born artist and graduate of Maine East High School, the exhibition is a journey back to Oakton, where he studied more than 20 years ago before earning a bachelor's degree in architecture from the University of Oklahoma in 1984.
His work has been featured in numerous exhibits, including solo exhibitions at the Montpelier Cultural Arts Center in Laurel, Md., and the American Institute of Architects in Washington, D.C.
"Assemblages" will be on view July 10 through Aug. 29 during regular Gallery hours: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Mondays through Thursday. Admission is free. For more information, call Nathan Harpaz, curator of the Koehnline Gallery, at 847-635-2633.
