Students
interested in pursuing a career in massage therapy are invited to
attend a free information session at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 6,
at Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines.
Oakton's
Massage Therapy program provides the necessary skills and experience
for students to apply for licensure as a massage therapist in the
state of Illinois. The program prepares students for employment in
a variety of rehabilitative health care fields, including physical
therapy, chiropractic services, and the spa industry. Applicants for
licensure must be 18 years of age, of good moral character, and able
to pass a criminal background check.
Students
who enroll in Oakton's Massage Therapy program will be exposed to
different types of therapeutic massage such as Swedish, neuromuscular,
myofascial release, sports, and injury recovery. Students who successfully
complete this certificate program are eligible to sit for the National
Certification Examination for Massage.
