The Oakton
Community College men's basketball team will be a young but talented
team in the coming season, says head coach Rick Kilby. Of the 15 players
on the Raiders' roster, 13 are freshmen.
"Our
strengths are we are quick, athletic, and play with intensity," says
Kilby. "The key is going to be how fast our players adjust to the
college game."
Providing
experience are sophomores Mario Lipski, a 6-7 center from DeKalb
High School, and Justin Noll, a 6-2 forward from Ombudsman
High School. Lipski was a starter as a freshman but is coming off
a knee injury and Noll saw action in 12 games last year for the Raiders.
Freshmen
expected to make valuable contributions this season are Marcus
Kardos, a 6-2 guard from Glenbrook North High School and Troy
Johnson, a 6-4 guard from Evanston Township High School.
The Raiders
embark on the 2004-05 campaign 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 9 when they host
Trinity International. Conference play starts Jan. 11 when Oakton
hosts Elgin at 7 p.m.
Kilby
reached a milestone last season picking up his 300th career win as
a head basketball coach. Of those wins, 218 have come at Oakton.
