Oakton Hosts 15th Annual Men's Day Conference

Best-selling author Michael Thompson, Ph.D., headlines the 15th Annual Men's Day Conference, 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, at Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines.

A psychologist specializing in children and families, Thompson has appeared on The Today Show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, 60 Minutes, and Good Morning America. Working with various collaborators he is the author of the best sellers Raising Cain: Protecting the Emotional Life of Boys and The Pressured Child: Helping Your Child Achieve Success in School and Life. Thompson's keynote, "Coming to Grips with Boy Underachievement," examines the reasons boys underachieve and offers solutions for addressing their academic disengagement.

The 2007 Men's Day theme, "Caring About Boys," focuses on the mixed messages boys receive from society, what they mean, and methods for raising healthier sons. More than 20 workshops are offered, including how to improve relationships and communication.

Registration for Men's Day is $65 in advance (deadline Nov. 10) and includes lunch. Registration is $90 at the door. Although this program is designed for men, women are welcome.
