Best-selling
author Michael Thompson, Ph.D., headlines the 15th Annual
Men's Day Conference, 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov.
17, at Oakton Community College, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines.
A
psychologist specializing in children and families, Thompson has appeared
on The Today Show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, 60
Minutes, and Good Morning America. Working with various
collaborators he is the author of the best sellers Raising Cain:
Protecting the Emotional Life of Boys and The Pressured Child:
Helping Your Child Achieve Success in School and Life. Thompson's
keynote, "Coming to Grips with Boy Underachievement," examines the
reasons boys underachieve and offers solutions for addressing their
academic disengagement.
The 2007 Men's Day theme, "Caring About Boys," focuses on the mixed
messages boys receive from society, what they mean, and methods for
raising healthier sons. More than 20 workshops are offered, including
how to improve relationships and communication.
Registration
for Men's Day is $65 in advance (deadline Nov. 10) and includes lunch.
Registration is $90 at the door. Although this program is designed
for men, women are welcome.
