Three
Oakton Community College students will continue their music studies
this fall at Illinois State University and Western Michigan University.
Chica
Cabalona of Morton Grove earned her associate's degree in
music this spring and will pursue music studies at ISU, majoring in
music therapy. Cabalona played with Oakton's popular Six Piano Ensemble
and will be joined at ISU by Chris Williams of Park
Ridge, another Oakton student who plans to major in music composition.
Katy Jacobs of Skokie is headed for WMU in Kalamazoo
to major in voice. Jacobs also has been active in Oakton's theater
department, most recently in the casts of Trojan Women and
Alice in Wonderland.
"I am proud that Oakton's music program has helped these students
transfer to universities that will continue to cultivate their talents,"
says Glenna Sprague, chair of Oakton's music department. "All three
are hard workers who will find success in their musical endeavors."
Oakton's music program offers classes in theory and applied instruction
and follows closely with the Illinois Articulation Initiative curriculum
for music majors, easing the transition between Oakton and other four-year
institutions. Fall music classes start Aug. 20.
