Explore the historical and contemporary issues of Native American culture by enrolling in new course offered this fall at Oakton Community College.History of Native Americans (HIS 113) surveys the history of Native Americans in North America from first contact with Europeans in the 15th century to the present. The course focuses on the historical struggle of Native Americans to retain their cultures and autonomy in the face of European expansion and the policies of the U.S. government. Case studies of tribal resistance during the 19th century will be examined, as well as the American Indian activism of the 1960s.
This three-credit-hour course meets from 9 to 11:50 a.m. on Fridays, beginning Aug. 30, at the Ray Hartstein Campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie.
