Oakton Community College is expanding career opportunities for students with the addition of several new certificate programs.Acquiring the skills to go "from art to part" is the focus of the Industrial Design Engineering Certificate. The 17-credit-hour program emphasizes the aesthetics of product development and incorporates design skills with parametric modeling software, rendering, model-making, and critical thinking skills related to industrial design and manufacturing. The Early Childhood Education Advanced Administration Certificate program is designed to prepare current and future early childhood professionals for careers in leadership and management of center-based early care and education programs. The 34-credit-hour program includes courses on such topics as child growth and development, nutrition, fiscal management, community relations, and foodservice sanitation. The Advanced Substance Abuse Counseling Certificate, a 29-credit-hour program, helps prepare students for employment as alcohol and others drug abuse (AODA) counselors. It also provides counseling education and training for social services and human resource professionals concerned with addicted individuals and their families. The Game Development Certificate program helps prepare students for entry-level jobs as game designers, graphic artists, level designers, producers, and programmers. The 37-credit-hour program teaches students the "tricks of the trade," from game design to programming. Topics include developing themes, establishing rules of play, and creating engaging 3-D characters and backgrounds. For more information, call Berney Krule at 847-635-1830.
