NEW SCULPTURES ON DISPLAY AT OAKTON

Three new sculptures have been installed on the grounds of Oakton Community College's Des Plaines Campus, 1600 East Golf Road.

Artist John Seyfried created his Pop Art style sculpture, "Photography Hall of Fame" in 1968 for the City of Des Plaines to commemorate the first pioneers of photography. Seyfried created vertical elements from copper pipes, the inspiration for which he received from the microscopic look of photographic paper. The names inscribed on the lenses are of photography's earliest pioneers: Eastman, Talbot and Daguerre among others. The sculpture is on loan from the International Photography Hall of Fame.

"Is Endless, Is Not," was created in 1999 by artist Bobby Joe Scribner. The piece was originally created for Pier Walk at Chicago's Navy Pier, and was previously on display at the Skokie North Shore Sculpture Park. The abstract linear composition of the sculpture is an homage to modern sculptor Constantin Brancuzi.

"Che-ca-guo/Wild Onion" explores the link between the word Chicago and its contextual Native American meaning, wild onion. Chicago artist Judy Robins constructed this piece in 1999, using limestone that was commonly used by Native Americans in this region. The sculpture faces the Des Plaines River, where wild onions still grow today.
