Diane
Williams of Park Ridge is the inaugural recipient of Oakton Community
College's Keeper of the Light Award.
The Keeper
of the Light Award was established in recognition of the founder of
nursing, Florence Nightingale. Often referred to as "the lady with
the lamp," Nightingale called on her patients throughout the night
hours carrying an oil lamp to light her way.
Presented
at Oakton's 20th Anniversary Pinning Ceremony, the Keeper of the Light
Award was awarded to the graduating nursing student with the highest
overall GPA. Williams has maintained and will graduate with a 4.00
GPA.
"Diane
exemplifies what we look for in our future nurses. Her dedication
and professionalism has been an inspiration to her fellow students.
The faculty has great expectations for her future in the nursing world,"
said Sandy Kubala, assistant professor of nursing.
